well since no one else has responded to you yet.... ive got an '85 900 turbo with a different engine, but I too have had a hell of a time with those valve cover gaskets. I think after the first time I took the valve cover off I never really got it on right (until now). I would make sure you have the bolts torqued down enough, since the plastic cover (like on mine) bends a considerable amount depending if it has 5 ft lbs or 20 ft lbs on it. I think the correct amount is 11 ft lbs of torque... I just made mine good and tight.
The valve cover gasket it very hard to put in on the old 900s because the gasket never wants to stick in the cover while you turn it upside down. If yours is like that, you may want to recheck to make sure the gasket hasnt slipped out in any places from when you put it on.
