Montana Tom, not knowing what you prefer I can suggest a few things. For sports we still have the Triple A baseball team, Florida farm club -Cannons (last year here) which is good to see in a small park, and cheap. Racecity Speedway always has something going on in auto racing in the summer. I don't think there will be any NHL as we likely won't make the playoffs. If you are bringing kids, we have a world class zoo here but undergoing major renovations. Also a theme park just west of town. Many other odds and ends such as Heritage Park, Calgary Tower, museums, art centre etc. Also have two Imax theatres now.
For meals etc, the Eau Claire district in north downtown along the river has a market with eateries and pubs. This is always a busy spot. This is not far from the 4th avenue restaurant strip that serves up some of the best steak in the world. Places like Caesars and Hy's. There are quite a few British style pubs downtown if a pint or scotch is in order. Western bars/nightclubs are quite popular as you can imagine. Places like Cowboys downtown or Ranchmens on Macleod Trail, Desperados on 11th Ave SE.
Of course there are also the mountains west of the city, but being from Montana probably not that interested in seeing more of the same.
Bring spring attire as the weather can be unsettled in May/June here.
