I polished some aluminum wheels on my car once. I had to remove the clearcoat first. Then I got some polish at the local autoparts store, cant remember what its called but some are better than other. Anyway, you have to use good cloth, pure cotton cloth so its not abrasive or else it wont shine it up as well. You basically rub the polish in in a circular motion until the polish turns black, then you put more polish on and use a new cloth. Uses lots of cloth, and lots of time and effort..... after I did mine, I had no idea how a professional gets metal so shiny. I could only make it look good, not great. Also, I tried to use a dremel. I didnt do that in the end because a dremel turns black so quickly that you have to change the cloth bit like every 30 seconds and those things arent cheap. The dremel did do an awesome job though making it shiney, way better than I could do by hand because it all comes down to how many times can you rub it. If you have money and patience to buy tons of those little cloth bits, then try that.
