I did not know they switched to Cummins now. They used to run on ancient soviet-era diesel engines. In the late 80's and early 90's, a few relatively wealthy Chinese municipalities bought a large number of Daimler Benz diesel buses. I guess those did not last long. The fuel quality in China is even worse than that of the US. Their domestic petroleum production always have had very high sulfer and wax content. The real answer is still cutting red tape and import duties so that the cost of replacing old vehicles with new clean burning gasoline cars can be affordable there. hmm, I wonder what CUM, or the bus maker, offered as kick-backs to get those purchase orders. Daimler sold those buses to China on the back of a fleet of luxury Mercedes sedans; apparently Andersen did not patent book cooking, nor did Enron on bribery.
