I just read the lates "Nines" newsletter. There's an interview with Michael Mauer, the (fairly) new head designer at Saab. There was one part that caught my attention. He said that it used to be that the engineers at Saab would come up with what they want, and the design people would have to come up with a nice shape for it. Now, Mr. Mauer says that it's the other way around: the design people come up with a pretty package and "challenge" (his word) the engineers to make it work. Is it me, or does it seem a bit bass ackwards, and unSaab-like?
