You know, after these many years of detailing, I've found
that a damn hard tire scrubbing is as good as anything. And it has
the plus that you know you won't be browing the tires with
repeated applications of chemical goop.
The tires were nice and black new. It follows that they can
be nice and black throughout their lifetimes with care.
I used to used tire blackening agents after a straight wash,
but hard-hard scrub-brush scrubbing on good quality sidewalls will
do quite a good job. Bit of an anaerobic workout but they will
stay clean in summer. IMO, wetglo black tires can look a little odd.
As for the undercladding/plastics and black vinyls, I use
peanut oil (for stains and after-winter cleaning) and then
Mothers 'Back to Black' about once a month. Works for me.
People forget that you need not do the whole car each and every time.
Sometimes, if you do just the tires, the rims, and all glass, the
car will look spiffy enough until you get the time to finish the whole
thing off. You could extend that mini-regime by taking on the
vinyls. And remember the tail pipe, the mudflaps, and the antenna.
I find 'RainAway' (or equivalent) to produce a nice finish on exterior glass surfaces and make clean-ups between full washes ever-so-much faster and easier.
I take it you know the rims can be kept nice with wax applications and a dry paintbrush/cloth wipe will whisk away brake dust without getting things all dirty and wet.
