OT: should I get recommendations for my college apps

I'll make a long story short here.... I went to a certain university for 3 years, did well the first two years, not very good at all the third year. I was working 25 hours a week managing the computer systems at a law firm and really wasn't happy at that university.
I applied to a much better school, didn't get in, and I've been taking courses there for the last year anyway. My credits here will basically finish off my degree at my old university, but I would like to spend another 1.5 years at this college because it has a much better psychology program and a better reputation in general.
The transfer admissions advisor at the school that rejected me, where I am currently, said that they just wanted to see that I could "handle the work" at this school. So when I apply after this summer, I will have 28 credits at this school completed.
What I am wondering is should I bother to get recommendations from my professors? Or do you think the admissions board is only interested in my grades here? I will probably ask the admissions board guy again, but I know you guys might have useful opinions on this.
Thanks,
Rob
