I second Michael Smith's comment that you are less likely to get pulled over in the first place if the radar detectors helps you avoid the situation.
I have a V1 and keep it right underneath the rearview mirror. No sense in hiding it because if they radar you and see your brakes lights in response or your nose dive in response, they know you have a detector before they even pull you over.
I got pulled over once with the V1 on the dash a couple times and have received warnings. It helps me slow down enough when I detect a signal not to get myself in trouble. I find just having it there reminds me to watch my speed and be alert.
I would have been pulled over many more if I didn't have such a fine instrument as the V1. The two times I actually got ticketed for speeding, both times I did not have a detector. One of those times, I was in a red Jag, and I think they don't give high end luxury car drivers a break.
