The best advice: take the car to a mechanic

I highly recommend taking the car to a mechanic; a Saab-specific mechanic would be the best option as well. Most mechanics will gladly do a thorough pre-purchase inspection for a small fee (usually 1 hr. of labor), and they will find things that the average car shopper just doesn't know to look for. I've seen cars come in that *looked* perfect, but ended up having serious problems that would have doubled the actual price of the car to get it road worthy. If you live in a state that requires inspections, a mechanic could look at those items that are scrutinized in an official inspection and tell you what would fail, etc.
If you need to find a good mechanic in your area, click on the "mechanics" link below. And... if your friend gets a Saab.. make sure to give them this web address! :o) Good luck,
Mike
