I have a 1.8T new passat Wagon w/ leather, sunroof, heated seats and a 2002 9-5 wagon. I love the VW. Lots of good features for a car that cost me $23.5K, things my saab doesn't have like auto-up windows, dial for the sunroof, homelink, alloy wheels w/o wheel visible weights, covers over the lugbolts, better carpet in the cargo area, better spare tire door, temp gauge and gas mileage are visible at the same time, etc. I was appauled the first time I folded the rear seats down on the saab. You have to slide the front seats so far forward to get the rear seats to fold flat. It's not comfortable to be in the front seat with the rear seats folded. The VW is not as quiet as the saab, but for the price it's the best car out there. The quality issues are less than on the jetta since the passat is made in germany not mexico. There are still lemons, but some people says Saabs are a piece of junk too. Everybodies got a horror story.
VW Service does suck, but it should get better since vw is going upscale. They have not idea how much oil the engine takes for example.
Can't go wrong with the passat IMO. The 2002 9-5 saab is okay, but I like my vw better.
