My state is (and diservingly so) notorious for it over zelous traffic enforcement. My state requires both plates. I have been driving around with a euro plate for over a year now. Often I see cops starring right at my Euro plate with a look of "whoa! what's that?" as I drive past. Most people think if you get some special international license you can wear duel plates. I imagine the cops think the same thing.
And another thing... The girl next to me inline at the AAA office was asking for real UN approved international driving permit. Why? Cuase she was going to be driving in NEW MEXICO! I was tempted to tell her that the New Mexico Federales only drive old VW bugs and if you see someone behind you in what looks like an American style police car they are really banditos and you should drive as fast as possible to get to the nearest US border.
