$20k for a '99 car that can be had for around the low $30k ish mark now as a 2002 is about average. 50% is pretty normal deprciation for a three year old anything.
Why do people lease new cars? Because the new 2002 is going to depreciate about $10-15K in three years, but so is a '99 9-5 for $20k only going to be worth $10k or less after 3 years too, so what do you want to own the first half or the second half?
