That's a fair explanation. The bigger a business gets and the more employees they have, the more they have at stake, and they have to be firm about protecting their secrets and being careful about who sees what.
If a husband and wife have a business, it's no secret who gets paid what for example. If you have a small business, not protecting certain pieces of information could cause serious discontent between employees. If you have a HUGE business like Honda, letting proprietary information out could affect many people to the tune of millions of dollars depending on the person who leaked it.

Perhaps The Probetalk Member knew more some of it being actually secret but didn't bother to post it that day, and Honda was afraid he'd post it another day or mention it in conversation, or get called by a reporter and wined and dined. If it's in the automagazines, you don't necessarily want to believe it as gospel truth, so when someone ads to it with their personal experience, it's not the same, they are turning suspicions into facts. If the news is big news and thousands of people start prematurely lusting for honda's competitors cars as a result of a leak, probably dozens or hundreds of jobs or potential jobs are at risk. I'd prefer internet forums to be more oriented to the end user experience, not for gossipy trade secrets.

I have to agree with others that even if nobody made him sign anything or he wasn't shown or asked to keep quiet, its still good business to keep your mouth shut. What if you had a plumber or carpenter over to your house to do some work. They probably did not sign an NDA or other secrecy agreement with you. Your nosey neighbor asks the contractor what your wife wears for panties or whether you recycle your tin cans like you're supposed to or what sort of prescriptions you had in the medicine cabinet. You'd fire them INSTANTLY if they leaked unnecessary information to nosy people, even though they did not have any confidentiality agreement with you, and even if it didn't actual hurt your finances or safety.

I don't know enough details to proclaim Honda right or wrong, just expressing a point of view as a small business enthusiast and car enthusiast.
