The 5 series BMW's are great cars, but they're about $10k more than Saab 9-5's or $20k more for the 540's. The 9-5's can actually be had for less than the price of a 3 series. And you might like the 9-5 better.
I drove the 528i that was a trade in. I noticed immediately the lack of low end torque in the BMW, you had to wind the BMW up to over 4,000 rpm's to get any kick out of it, not so with the turbo Saab. I also remember the flat red light of the BMW dash, the teutonic (German sp?) sterility of the dash in contrast to the colorful intruments and warm aircraft style environment of the Saab. I also like the sure footedness of the FWD Saab in real world driving vs. the autobahn/racetrack reflexes of the RWD BMW.
If money were no object than an M3 convertible or an M5 or maybe a Z8, but for the mid thirties I'll take a 9-5 Aero any day over a 5 series. Higher quality, more exclusivity, better dealer service and a lower price.
And I like Saabs, do you?
