The Saab version will be 2.0, that's correct. The Ecotec line is designed to be flexible, with displacements ranging from 1.8 to 2.2. The Cavalier and Saturn Ion will be getting 2.2l turbo versions with 180hp in a couple years.
And the other poster is correct, Saab definitely had a part in the basic engine design as well as doing some of their own specific design for the Saab-specific engines.
