It's funny that you focus on Lance Posted by AdamB [Email] (#3) [Profile/Gallery] (more from AdamB) on Thu, 1 Aug 2002 06:32:05 In Reply to: Re: doping... testing catches this!, compaqted, Wed, 31 Jul 2002 09:18:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
as if I accused him of only winning because he used EPO. If you had read my posts you would se that I'm not talking about him, I'm talking about them all. It seems like you think Lance is some iconic Saint, just because he's american.
As for the EPO testing, that is a joke as I also wrote in my other posts. The halflife of EPO is very short, and if you test 48 hours after taking it, it won't be discovered. It's effects don't occur until several days have passed, and then lasts for 100-120 days (so they can just take it before the Tour). The only way to test for it is looking at the hematocrit, and that can also be artificially lowered by increasing the amount of plasma in the blood. This can be done by ingesting large amounts of fluid, or getting it intravenously. Incidentally the riders are indeed allowed to get IV fluids when they rest between the courses, so they of course do it. Finally the arbitrarily set hematocrit limit of 50% is considerably higher than normal, so even though you don't exceed the limit, you can easily be doped.
Besides being a 3rd year medical student, I also know a girl who's best friend has been a professional rider, cycling alongside Pantani etc. So I'm not just talking out my ass....
