In a way, this is like the argument about digital vs. analog when digital recordings were being introduced during the early '80s. The golden ear audiophiles heard all sorts of subtleties in the analog vinyl records that were, to them, lost in digital recordings. The flip side of the coin is that you got better dynamic range and clarity from (good) digital recordings.
AFAIK, the only place that you can get new vinyl records anymore is in Greece. (Someone let me know if we can get new ones in the good ol' USA.)
(Here's where the SAAB comparison comes in.)
As a sort of golden bottom Saabophile, I love my SPG to bits. But, after driving 9^5 Aeros at the last two SOCs, the quality and performance of the cars outshines nearly everything that SAAB was able to accomplish in the C900T.
If I had the money to buy a new SAAB, I wouldn't worry about the hatch vs. no hatch controversy. I'd rent a truck when I need one. Heck, I'd pay someone to move whatever big thing I'd need to move - I'd save the energy for putting the transmission in my SPG :-)
