Well, I almost made it to 1 year of ownership without an accident:
Driving home from work, eastbound on the LIE (Long Island, NY). I see in the rear view mirror a black VW Beetle coming off the HOV lane, going for as much as she could get. Behind me is another silver VW Beetle minding her own business. No one's speeding or being belligerent. The car in front of me comes to a slow stop, so do I. Suddenly a wild squealing of brakes. I glance up in the rear view and see nothing unusual. Look back front and bam! They got me.
Seems the women in the black bug, crunched the silver bug, which in turn creamed me. There would of been no damage to Christine (citron beige, 1991 900S, near mint) except the silver bug trying to avoid hitting me, turned her wheels to the left. So, instead of hitting flush, she hit on the left of the bumper, which crumpled and pushed the NEW muffler up and out. Christine's drivable, but is it my imaginationthat she is noisier? Not exhaust noise, but bearing noise.
We pull off to the side and start the exchange. The hiway pats show up and start taking info. After about 10 minutes a formerly pristine red Fraud LTD pulls over onto the grass. WTH(?) look in the rearview and there's a 1-2 year old BMW 3 series stopped 5 car lengths behind me, flashers going. *MY* hiway patrol goes into reverse and pushes the BMW off the road, behind the LTD (whose bumper is about 3" off the ground). The BMW's bumper and grill are toast.
Forget the Montana militia. Adolph's boy are coming to get us.
'Today the LIE, tomorrow the interstate!!! Ve haf vaaays of making you park!'
Other than that it was another nice day on Long Island.
cheers
