SAAB fans, then it will certainly go down the tubes. SAAB hasn't seen good sales until it broke away from the loyalist and created the 9-5. Classic SAAB desing was/is great, but change is inevitable. Once again, people are nit picking the 9-3 without having seen it in person or driven the car. Let's say you are a loyal SAAB fan (having read your posts I know you are at least loyal to SAAB), what if you actually see a new 9-3 and notice that the interior pieces look very expensive and fit better compared to the current 9-3 (It has to look better, cause the current 9-3 interior looks like 1984 compared to most cars). What if the new engine is smoother and more powerful then the current 9-3 (good chance of it being smoother...especially at idle). What if the ride is ten thousand times better than the current 9-3. Are you going to nit pick and not buy the car because the dash colors are not traditional SAAB or the window switches are not in the console? Have you been in a 9-5 and then gotten right back in a 9-3 or 900? I have and there is a huge difference in the two. The 9-5 is a thousand times more civilized than my 9-3 (even though I love it) and it's a better car (hence the good sales of the 9-5), and the 9-5 is the first of SAAB to "break away" (if you consider it breaking away) from the SAAB tradition. I think people should think of it as an evolution of SAAB tradition. Aren't there always people that say the new model XXX is not a true SAAB. People said that about the 900, the 9000, NG900, 9-3, 9-5, new 9-3, and so on and so on.
Change is a matter of fact. Better embrace it than worry about it.
