Hi Mr. Science,
The link points to article which says "Super-charging", but it seems
to use the terms "Super-charging" and "Turbo-charging" interchangeably.
Super-charging is the poor man's turbo-charge and uses usable energy
and not energy that would otherwise be wasted, and since when has Saab
super-charged its engines?
Also, wouldn't Variable Compression Ratio engine solve the one problem
with Turbo engines, namely turbo lag by allowing engine to develop more
power at low boost? I do not see any similar benefit of variable
compression ratio for super-charging, again because super-charging uses
usable energy from crank-shaft. Why go through all that trouble if all
one wants is slight increase in fuel economy over a normal super-charged
engine?
thanks
Jae
