First, call the Saab dealer and ask what it costs to replace the front headlight, and have them fax you a quote, if possible ($150 is much too low, IMHO).

Then look up the Expedition jerk's phone number in the phone book and leave a message like "Hello. This is Quinn. You backed into my car this morning. The cost of the repair is $___. I have a quote from the dealer in my hand. You can pay me directly, and I won't report this to the police or to your insurance company, but you must pay me by 6pm today. The police will consider this a hit and run. Call me at ________ to arrange the payment".

If you don't have his phone number, then type this up and leave it taped to his front door. DO NOT ring the doorbell or confront the guy! You NEVER know what could be behind that door or what attitude the jerk has.

If he doesn't come through, just call the police to report an accident. Then he is really pretty screwed... his insurance rate will go up each year what your new headlight will cost him.

I did this after someone backed into my Volvo wagon and cracked the taillight (cost was $280 for a piece of colored plastic!). I got the driver's address before she decided to ignore me and take off (she actually had a suspended driver's license!). She paid within the hour.
