New Corolla is not a good choice

Seems Toyota has cut too much on the new Corolla. Lot's of complaints about squeaks and rattles and less power than advertised. This is becoming widespread with manufacturers.
I have an 01 9-5 manual, presently waiting for a second gear to be shipped from Sweden. In the meantime, I am driving an 02 Linear automatic and I’m amazed by the 5-speed slushbox. I know they fine-tuned the chassis in 02 but it’s the transmission that makes the big difference between both cars (same engine). The auto feels much smoother and upscale. Of course with only 5,000km on it, the typical Saab creeks and cracks haven’t appeared yet.
If your dad is used to a car the size of a Corolla, he might feel better in the 9-3SS. It’s cosy without being cramped. Mom will definitely love its comfort, comfort and safety and it is frugal on gas for that kind of power. As for reliability, might as well go for the Maxima, which I guess, are still available with manual, if he really wants a stick. Camry is totally boring and not that comfortable. Passat is probably a good choice for a manual and reasonably confortable. VWs have good seats for long trips. Stay away from the V6 is you want economy.
Have fun shopping
