The original H1 was based on the military vehicle. Overall a very impressive piece of engineering with parts built by the lowest bidder. The vehicle had geared hubs, which kept the drive shafts well above the center of the wheel, allowing for great ground clearance. The engine was deisel with the eletrical system waterproofed for river crossing.
The new vehicle is just a Suburban or Yukon with a body kit.
Does anyone know who ever came up with the stupid Hummer name. In 9 year of military service, I have never heard the word Hummer (when refering to the vehicle) used. We always called it a Humvee (HMMWV- High Mobility, Multi-purpose, Wheeled Vehicle.)
