The president of an automotive sales and marketing company, has substantial influence into product planning, etc..., especially when said president is representing a particular company's largest market. Ask people who work for BMW NA what level of influence and responsibility Jim McDowell has for guiding the global company and its product decisions and you'll find that is more than significant.

Young and energetic means nothing in the grand scheme of things. Saab needs people who understand product and have a vision beyond kissing dealer's rear ends... Your comments regarding "marketing is marketing" sounds like it's coming from a dealer or the Zarella era at GM...

Bottom line is Saab 9-5 is a fine car, not a standout in any way. Saab 9-3 is a fine car, again, not a stand out in any way. Saab has average product, as well as the luxury segments' lowest brand awareness and consideration. Add new levels of GM management to the mix and Saab's days are numbered to say the least.

I have owned several Saabs and have loved every one. However, while the market becomes crowded with exceptional cars, Saab introduces pablum. While Mazda introduces innovative cars like the RX-8, Saab introduces a glorified Jetta. While Saab offers 210hp for the 9-3, Volvo prepares to offer 300hp and awd in the S60. Audi puts a 4.2l V8 in the S4. Infiniti brings the G35.

You can have your peppy, energetic executives and improved retailer communications -- as a customer, I don't give a !@@@##. I, like most other consumers, just want great cars and we're unfortunately having to look elsewhere...
