I've done some research/thinking about the BB improvements I've been considering. I took another look at the UBB style BB and it still feels like BB for 1st graders, so to speak. I'm going to be extending the current TSN BB software which was written from scratch by myself and a friend of mine for use here and on the eScribe.com site. These are the enhancements that I'm going to be working on, most likely in this order as well. Again, I'm not really looking for comments, but rather keeping folks informed as there might be some downtime while I upgrade PHP/mySQL and do code testing. If you feel strongly about something that has to do with this project, please email me directly.
1. User registration/passwords.
Anybody will be able to read the bulletin boards - no username or password required. You will, however, need an account and a valid password to post to the forums. I'll be using one of two coding implementations. The plan is to use an implementation that will allow your browser to remember your password. I believe there should be no problem with this method, but a temporary fallback alternative would be to have a password field under the name field that would be filled out when posting. This also means that your username is reserved for your use only.
2. Thread View Hierarchy Integrity
The thread view will look the same inside a message thread as it does in the main thread index, instead of reversed as it currently is.
3. View by Last Updated Thread
In addition to the By Thread and By Date views, there will be a By Last Updated Thread view. Threads will be shown in the order in which thread had the most recent post added to it.
4. Search Engine Beefed Up
The original search engine was kept somewhat simple so as to not overburden the server. Since then, I've bought a new server and it can handle more resource-intensive searches. You can also search via the TSN Google box linked below - available now.
That's it for this round. Already I'm behind on my December duties. I have a new photo of the month to post and another two raffle winners to announce.
Thanks for your patience as I begin to work on this stuff. Again, if you want to discuss any of this, please email me directly or use the bug report from on the home page as this thread is closed.
