Im in the opposite situation, owned Saabs all my life , and one Honda Civic which I cant say enough good things about. Just purchased a used Subaru Impreza Outback as a second car, and thats the first thing I said to myself, "too much control"...ha,...let me ask you this, in the snow, is it normal for the ass end to come around like a rear wheel drive car if you really punch it and try to break things loose ? I was surprised but didnt know what to expect, but I expected the front to plow like a front wheel drive car before the back would break free. My observations so far are: Engine is grunty as described above, adequate, quiet as a mouse when idleing and warmed up,little noisy when cold and noisy in the upper revs. Various annoying rattles from the dash area, but it is a used car, ride is firm if not a little too firm, and the seats are too firm and could use better bolstering. Gas mileage is pretty good for a 2.2 litre engine and all wheel drive ..the heater is incredibly effective and fast to warm up.
