Pursang,
I owned a 1996 GMC Sonoma Extended Cab for over two years. Not one problem with the truck. Had the Vortec engine with the automatic. Used it for towing as well (approximately 500lbs of equipment). Also installed a JetChip to increase the horsepower and torque. Definitely made a big difference. When I purchased it new at the time, I compared it to the Toyotas, Dodges, Nissan, etc. and ended up with the GMC Sonoma. What sold me on the Sonoma was it's quiet and comfortable ride and aftermarket support. It also helped to have a friend who was a fleet manager for GMC at the time sell me the truck for $100 over their cost. Don't go with the four cylinder with the stick, it is still sluggish and that's without towing anything. Didn't go with the Toyota because of uncomfortable seats and ride, Dodge was comfortable but gas mileage was the poorest, especially with the Magnum V8, Nissan was too tinny for my taste. This is just my opinion. I would strongly suggest trying out the different trucks and see which "feels" right for you. The "real" downside to the Sonoma is the poor crash ratings vs. the other trucks, especially vs. Toyota which tested well. Hope this helps.
