I believe (and hope) that you are describing the "old" GM. The current chairman (is that his title?) has already begun shaking up the divisions in the US -- more unique identities and vehicles.
I hope that he will see how Saab fits into this as well, abd given his passion for cars -- I'm inclined to think so.
The upcoming Pontiac GTO is a prime example -- can you imagine a non US built V-8 car as the showcase vehicle for Pontiac before? And this from Holden -- in relatively obscure (to Americans) Australia?!?
