I split my time between my home on Cape Cod and my apartment in Boston. I have no television in Boston. At my home on the Cape, we put TV's and computers in the kid's rooms - but none in our social spaces. Life is very short and I want as little down-time as possible (watching TV/sleep, etc.) and TV is addicting ( I know, my undergraduate degree is in television/multimedia production). I try to limit my consumption to 1-2 hours/week. I hosted and co-produced a five-part television series called Biology Alive! that accompanies my textbook and shows up on cable - it was fun to produce but my connection to TV is peripheral at best. My ex-wife used to show me snipets of popular TV shows (Friends/Seinfelt, etc.) so I could be conversant in social settings - but I have never sat through a whole episode... my current wife doesn't even try (bless her). If two people can't find mutually enjoyable stuff to talk about outside the domain of televised content - well I guess I got nothin' to say to them. I read voraciously... so I can engage in a fair number of things..

Oh well, I guess that's part of the inconoclastic parts that make us Saab drivers...
