The brief history is: SAAB had developed the "NG900" minus a platform. Along comes GM with an Opel platform that is close to the need. SAAB goes with this but has to mount steering rack to firewall in a manner that causes undesireable level of torque steer. Production is rushed a little and the reult was a poor first year for the car despite the great qualities SAAB had brought with the initial design. By 1996 nearly all the bugs were fixed and then in 1999 the 9-3 designation was used to get in line with the new 9-5. Ihad a 1994 and a 1996 NG900. There was a major difference in road feel with the newer one. Appearance wise nothing was different. Some folks had no problems with the car at all despite the year.
