Value. The 9-3S 5dr 5sp came with 15 inch rims and the crappy handing endemic of all NG900/9-3 Saabs. But is was only C$32,000. For about C$1500, I was able to sort that out with the 16 inch rims, the 215/55 g-Force tires and the adjustable Koni's. One hell of a lot cheaper than the 9-3SE or the Viggen. Transferred the Forge from my '95, as well as the speakers. Kept the old rims for my winter tires.
I had intended to buy the car, so I hadn't worried about modifications. But hearing all the lease deals available on the 9-3SS has me rethinking. We have a '97 900, so the necessity of a hatch on both cars isn't there. I can have a grown up super sedan if I want.
