I just had to get a DTC read from our '98 Accord. Its free at AutoZone, the parts counter guy comes out, plugs in his reader & gets the code - P1457. Then he goes back inside to his computer & tells me its the fuel tank not able to hold vacuum, I must not have put the gas cap on tight.
At home, I looked up P1457 in my Helms book (kinda like Bentley for Honda). There's a whole troubleshooting tree for that code, all associated with the evap canister & the valves for that system. Nothing to do with the gas cap.
So its not bad to read the error codes, you just need more information about them. Gotta get a Saab WIS disk someday...
