After upgrading to an MBC, I started getting some hooting with the bosch valve, so I started looking for an aftermarket BPV or BOV. I ended up purchasing the Type H BPV 25mm designed to replace the bosch unit. I couldn't decide whether I wanted their BOV or BPV because I wanted the "whoosh" sound but didn't want it to be too obnoxious. Let's just say I was considering the GAF: Girlfriend Acceptance Factor.

TurboXS is located in Gaithersburg, MD right around the corner from Viking...so I drove out there to talk to some of the folks. They are all a bunch of WRX-philes!! They were dynoing some guy's WRX on Saturday (who drove all the way from Cincinnati!!)...It was getting about 250hp to the wheels! Interesting seeing the vehicle and all 4 wheels bolted on to a contraption that handles wheel drive vehicles.

Anyway, I found out you could run the BPV in BOV mode (e.g., venting to atmosphere)...this way I could try the BOV mode first to see if I liked it and if not, connect the hose back to the airbox. Well, I am very happy with with BPV venting to atmosphere! Not too loud...just enough "pssht" and not too obnoxious. With "average" driving, it is nearly silent.

Spool-up does seem to a little quicker and I'm confident it will hold the increased pressures from the MBC. Other than that, I don't think there is any other real benefits (except maybe the "whoosh" sound).

It was a really easy install! Only took about 15 minutes. The only thing I had to do was trim the rubber hosing from the intercooler pipe about 1.5 inches so that the unit would fit better. Also, I had to plug the return hose to the airbox.
