The glaze/buff pretty much is just a cover up. I it will eliminate some small scratches if done correctly, but by the end of summer you will lose some luster.
The compound job will take care of most of the oxidation and scratches. The swirl marks should be taken care of too, since the buffer will create new ones, so make sure the guy takes care of that. If you are planning on keeping the car for a bit and not repainting in the next year or so, I would spend the $$. Ask to see a sample of his work!
You might want to try a little 3M scratch and swirl mark remover by yourself. I would do this by hand unless you know your way around a buffer/polisher. The results might get it "good enough" for about $8 bucks.
