racing. Even a humble Audi A4Q will beat you from a dead stop.
Time to distance is different from time to speed. You may have a good 0-60MPH time and the other car may have a lower 0-60MPH time but can have a quicker 0 to 500ft time than your car. It takes a bit more time for you to catch up to the distance lost if your car has better time to speed.
For those who are mathematically inclined, think of a time vs. speed curve, the area under the curve is the distance travelled. Draw a few curves with different time to speed and you see why this is so.
