I looked at those in the dealership- great idea, and the execution is far better than any of the competition (Matrix, Aztek, PT) I was surprised to see that you can't get the AWD with the 5MT though- surprising for a car with utilitarian aspirations. Only thing that comes close is a VW Eurovan for twice the price.
Not sure how well it performs in a side impact, and the radiator looks a bit vulnerable for a car that typically will see a lot of gravel roads. Lack of front sunroof is a bit dissapointing too. Lack of proper cargo restraints (a la cargo rails in my Aero wagon) is concerning as well.
Flip up seats are a neat idea, although they seem a bit awkward. EZ clean interior is smart.
Keep an eye on the plastic body cladding- I've heard there's been some issues with it scratching/scuffing easily.
To summarize, the Element is a great car, but I've been spoiled by my 9-5 wagon and I just couldn't give up the performance and comfort for a bit more utility! (not that you were suggesting that the Element is an alternative!)
Have fun!
Brad
(PS- I really like the blue/silver combo!)
