are you coming up via Buffalo / Niagara Falls ? and take the QEW to the 403 to 6 to 401 to Cambridge? (come via Burlington / Hamilton ?)
If so . have you considered going the other way via Detroit or Pt Huron?
I went to SOC last summer in Cincy, and I live in Hamilton (not too far from 403/6 actually) and going down I went via Buffalo, Erie, Clevland and cut down. On my way back, I came north through Michigan and crossed at Detroit. Trip was identical in travel time for me.
as for closing the highway, there was some pretty bad snow in some parts of southern (south western) ontario yesterday. it was REALLY slippery out, and they probably closed hwy 6 because nobody (particularly truckers) could get up that hill don't know about the 401 'tho .. so there might have been a really bad accident. Usually they do a prelim investigation, then haul it away .. they'll leave lanes open as appropriate .. but if it's blocking all lanes (like a semi might) OR it's something really serious (and they need to land air ambulance) then they close the highway outright
