There was a strangely shaped and illuminated button high up on the dash. I am an engineer so you can immediately guess what I did; I pressed the button to see what it did.

With no obvious response to any of the car's systems, I pressed it again.

"Damn it Dad, stop doing that! You'll turn the car off!" And there was some message that I saw flash across the screen so I am assuming it is possible to turn the ATS off while in motion with either prolonged or repeated pressing.
