GMC stands for Gronski Motors Company, although I may have misspelled it. GM bought it out in the early 1900's. GMC used to be a Chevy clone, however nowadays they are vastly different trucks. They share the base chassis, and a lot of interior cosmetics, but there are great differences in the engineering, such as transmissions, how the engines are calibrated, electronics, safety features, etc.
And VS. ford, GMC is just a better vehicle. Look on the net for the following features on BOTH cars, and then decide for your self: 4x4 systems. ESP, or Stabilitrak systems. ABS. Airbag systems. "Limp-Home" System. Crash worthiness. JD Powers and Consumers Reliability reports. "Quiet-Steel". Road Noise. Gross Towing Capacity, and remember to check out what each company allows for passenger weight, I think ford allows for a 50 lb driver at their max towing, as opposed to 200 or so for the GMC. Check out HP, Torque vs Fuel Eff. And of course look up depreciation factors.
Lastly, when Honda decided to buy diesel engines instead of make them, they didn't go to ford. They buy from GM.
