It can't be possible that a narrowed platform forced them to have to use a 5 cylinder instead of a 6 cylinder as they are longitudinally mounted. It's all about torque curves, displacement (not cylinders), and power to weight ratio. I'll bet you that the Canyon/Colorado powertrain has more torque and is more fuel efficient than many of the competitors with V6 engines. It is more of a marketing mistake than a technical one. All high-riding truck platform pickup trucks are tippy in corners and they tend to be heavy because of the body-on-frame architecture. I'm not going to defend the gaps or the interior because I think they are subpar, but to call it "cheap, and lame" is just insulting it without being specific. Some of the other competitors have lots of hard plastic. (I won't mention any names).
