MINI wheels & tires...how do you spell expensive?

Met a guy last night who has a MINI Cooper S with the 17" run flat tires.
He has managed to hit 2 (or was it 3 ?) potholes, each of which has wiped out a wheel and tire to the tune of about $750 per wheel/tire combo. (fwiw, if it was me, I'd be a lot more careful after the first one!)
He said the offset has so much wheel effectively cantilevered out from the hub face that a pothole bends the sh!t out of the wheel and the run flats typically get cut up. He's looking for a non-run-flat 50 series tire now insead of the 45-series run flats. The run-flats are almost $300 each. =8-)
Also said the Mini dealer charges $88 for an oil change. They have some weird oil filter arangement that is a dealer-only set up, although there is an adapter to use a regular spin on filter. He's been in the auto industry for 35 yrs (designs convertible top and seat belt systems (Corvettes, Caddys, other GM, but also some German stuff) and says the Mini is way over-engineered, making it more complex than it needs to be.
