...the Lincoln LS was intended to replace the Euro-market Ford Granada/Scorpio, but took a long time to develop, and by the time it was getting ready to go to market Ford had bought Volvo and Jaguar and didn't need/want a Ford-badged 'executive car' anymore.

The early (2000-2002) Jag S-Types shared a lot of Lincoln LS parts, the 2003-up models have a nicer interior and a slightly different front suspension. Ford's always kept the Lincoln one engine spec lower than the Jag - so originally the Jag motors got variable cam timing and 240HP (V6) and 280HP (V8), the Lincoln didn't get VCT and had 210HP and 252HP. For '03 the Jag went up to 4.2L and 300HP, so the Lincoln got the 4-liter VCT V8 and 280HP.

The '03-up Jags have a wonderful interior, the Lincoln back seat is roomier though the Jag front seats are a bit more comfortable for me.

Used lease-return Lincoln LSes are very good values, and with the sport package they're a nice drive; the '03-up 280HP V8s are quick enough to be serious fun.
