My daughter had a 1990 Audi 80 sedan. Front wheel drive, VW based four cylinder, five speed. Very nice car. Solid, roomy, fun to drive (though not particularly fast) and fuel efficient.
I had a 1990 Coupe Quattro, 20 valve five cylinder, five speed. Very unique looking car, lots of fun to drive. Not very roomy inside and not as solid as the 80. Not as fuel efficient, either. Timing belt a big issue if it breaks, and fairly expensive to replace. Unheated leather seats were very stiff and cold in winter. Not at all adequate for off-highway travel (see below).
Both of these cars were purchased used, and both were easy to sell when it was time for something else.
My coupe quattro was a brief interlude in a series of what is now five four wheel drive full size pickups over the past 25 years: Dodge-Ford-Dodge-Ford-Chevy-Ford. I can't imagine driving anything else.
John.
