This particular tranny is known to do that. I forget what exactly wears out but it's a common problem.

This model has no replaceable transmission filter and the fluid must be partially changed every 30k miles. Many people do the partial drain/refill every year to prevent problems of this sort.

Also, this model requires special Honda ATF. If any other fluid is use, you will have rough shifts.

So if the fluid has not been changed in a while and/or non-Honda ATF was used -- you can try doing a few drain/refill cycles using genuine Honda ATF. It is available via mail order for cheap.

The only alternative to Honda ATF would be to use Dexron III with Lubegard black additive. It will work OK but not quite as good as genuine Honda fluid.
