What is your location? What are your winter conditions? You are very vague on these questions which I consider crucial to a helpful answer.
Re 5), what does "certified" mean?
How do you assess your nanny's driving competence? If you distrust your kids' safety in the Maxima, how high will your trust level be raised in some other vehicle?
Re 5) again, if you can afford a nanny to ferry your offspring around, what do you mean by "relatively cheap"? Cheap is OK for the nanny and maybe the kids, while you grown-ups go expensive? I don't know nor presume, just reading possibilities between the lines.
Having possibly got past some of the ephemera, my answer is Subaru Legacy with AWD, top-quality snow tires, & maximum air bags.
BTW, what is/are your personal transport?
