Ok guys, I know this isn't a Saab question, but I hope you can help me anyways.
Here's the scenario. When I took my MR2 on it's final shakedown drive on the return home section the oil pressure gauge dropped to zero. I shut off the engine and coasted home.

Back in the garage, I tested the gauge and it works as it should. I tested the sender and it was putting out no signal. So I replaced the sender, reassembled the car and tried again. Still no signal from the sender.

Tonight, my Dad was kind enough to let me borrow the mechanical oil pressure gauge from his '71 BMW 2002. I screwed that into the sender hole and there was no pressure indicated, not even any movement visible in the clear line. Left over in the gauge line were small sections of oil, and they didn't show movement during the 3-4 seconds the engine was running for.

Removing the sender completely and starting the engine showed nothing coming out of the hole. Removing the oil filter resulted in an expected amount of oil coming from the hole when the engine was started.

So, is it POSSIBLE that I got a bad oil filter? What else could cause this? I'm really stumped here and am hoping to not have to pull the engine again.

The most confusing part is that I HAD pressure when I first started driving.

Latest theory: The engine that was in the car had a BADLY blown headgasket, so there are remnants of oil-water milkshake in the oil cooler. Is is possible that the water in there plugged the oil filter after a little bit of driving?
