Re: Subaru SVX. Opinions Posted by Justin VanAbrahams [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Subaru SVX. Opinions, Ken ![]() |
The SVX was of course the replacement for the Subaru XT (and XT6) designed from beginning to end to be more GT than sports car. The H6 makes plenty good power to get the beast moving, but certainly isn't fast by today's standards. Overall, they're pretty reliable with no truly major weak spots save the automatic. You can virtually rely on rebuilds every 80k-100k and there simply isn't a fix for them. Some will last longer, but they are rare. Until recently this was just the way it was, but rejoice in the fact that the Subaru WRX 5-speed is a *drop in* replacement for the automatic and a couple places now sell kits to make it happen. One of those shops is in Carson City, NV - pretty sure they originated the swap.
IMHO, the SVX is a gorgeous (if a little quirky), comfortable cruiser with a decent powerplant and a responsive (although unreliable) drivetrain. A late model SVX is definitely on my to-buy list... I'm jealous as hell of the red one a friend just picked up...
