...was the E23 745i. M30 big six same as the 733i/735i, with a turbo strapped on. They are hardly known for instant response, but they shame a Saab thanks to the displacement of the engine. There was no 740i until 1993 with the E32 chassis, and that was a V8. The 5 series and 6 series have never had turbochargers from the factory, save for diesel models.
Alpina did however made various turbo BMWs during this era, most notably the B10 BiTurbo - take an E34 535i, strap on a pair of T25s... 360hp, 380lb-ft...
