... whether it be chipping, induction mods, etc., he will VERY likely void his warranty and, if he is leasing it, likely be in violation of his lease agreement. Neither of those prospects are very appealing to those under a 'budget.' Going fast is fun. But, going fast is also expensive. If a $400 chip is breaking that budget, he really shouldn't be doing anything to it at all.
Now, if the above hasn't disuaded him from doing mods, then he should spend some time on vwvortex.com and edition719.com. There are some great resources on both of those sites and many VERY knowledgable people who can help you do some tweakin'. VWs are very fun (and generally relatively cheap) to mod, but, I don't know how well that profile fits the new FSI engines.
Anyway, FWIW. I hope this helps a little.
