Mini Cooper

Last week my wife placed an order for a Mini Cooper S.
We had been at an Lexus dealer and she was ready to buy a 2006 GS300 at a deep discount. I suggested we take a break before the final negotiations with the salesman. There was a Mini dealer nearby so we decided to take a quick test drive. Before I know it were are ordering a Cooper S at MSRP which is only a few k$ that I paid for my 9-5. As an observer/participant in the process, I have to say is that Mini/BMW has its marketing act together, and SAAB could learn some lessons from it. My wife used to be as much into cars as I am into flower arranging. Since she ordered the mini she has been transformed into a gung-ho enthusiast, to the point where she is already ordering go-fast parts from the internet. Mini does not really advertise, but has created a great cachet image for the car. You have to wait 6 weeks for the car to be custom-made in England, but you can follow the process on the Mini website. It seems to me that they are creating amazing brand loyalty and have attracted quite a diverse clientele.
The whole purchasing process was the lowest pressure car buying situation I have ever encountered. I should emphasize that I have never paid more than $4k under MSRP for any new car, and here was I as a willing participant in having my pocket picked!
